Addition and renovation of a 1930’s Silver Lake residence for a growing family of musicians and artists. A lower story addition was designed to expand this modest California bungalow and include a master suite, additional bedroom/ studio and exterior decks.  This lower floor is nestled into the lush landscaping and engages the exterior living area with decks and private patios.  The upper floor was updated to include a music/ art studio and expand the living area on the rooftop deck over the addition.

These exterior decks became the main design feature as much of the addition seamlessly nestled into the hillside.  They allow the family to enjoy the stunning views, occupy the once un-usable sloping site and expand the living space without adding square footage.  Gold mengaris wood was selected to provide a durable and beautiful deck finish that wraps up the railing on the sides for privacy and remains open with a stainless steel cable rail toward the stunning hilltop views.
